Quinta da Folgorosa was founded in 1711 and since then has always produced wines.
Getting to know the context of the Quinta is the beginning of any visit, starting with the walk through the houses of the village of Folgorosa and ending with the arrival at the windmill on top of the hill, which affords the visitor an impressive 360º view of the entire region surrounded by the Serra do Socorro and the grandiose Serra do Montejunto. It is in the windmill, inclusively, that part of the more than 300 years of the farm's history are told to the visitors, always accompanied by the delicious Folgorosa rosé wine and the fresh Atlantic winds.
The history of the Quinta is one of the highlights of the visit, as there are few Quintas that can mention having been the stage of the Peninsular Wars. Fewer still can mention that the two most important officials of the time, Junot and Wellington, have spent time there and their stories are intertwined with the history of the Quinta itself.
On the way down from the mill to the Quinta, visitors walk among the vines with a greater understanding of the sustainable viticulture method used and the life cycle of the vines on the Quinta. In the vicinity of the Quinta the refurbishment of the house is also always referred to, this one carried out by the famous architect Ernesto Korrodi in 1910.
On returning from the tour of the Quinta's surroundings, the winery is the destination for visitors, who get to know the environment and ask questions about how the wines are produced. After a few wines and a lot of history, the tasting room welcomes visitors with other delicious wines from Quinta da Folgorosa, in addition to cheeses, sausages and other surprises that are specially tested to accompany each wine proposed.
