Cartuxa Wine Tourism – Tour St Inácio de Loyola

Located at Quinta de Valbom, just 2 km from the historic centre of Évora – a UNESCO World Heritage city – and 200 metres from the Cartuxa Monastery that inspired its name, Cartuxa Wine Tourism is housed in the former Jesuit retreat, where members of the Society of Jesus taught at the University of Évora in the 16th and 17th centuries. Acquired in the 19th century by the Eugénio de Almeida family, the winery underwent several expansions and restorations over time, preserving the richness of its architectural and historical heritage.

The guided visit invites you to explore the history of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, the unique surroundings of Quinta de Valbom and the building where Cartuxa Winery was founded, in an environment that blends heritage, tradition, and the identity of the Alentejo.

The experience concludes with a tasting of six premium wines, carefully selected by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation (excluding Pêra-Manca White and Red). Guests may also complement the tasting with traditional Alentejo snacks such as cured meats, cheeses and regional jams.
