Família Margaça
Família Margaça has deep roots in the Alentejo, where, since 1973, it has been producing wines with authenticity and character. Founded by José Veiga Margaça, the Sociedade Agrícola de Pias began as the vision of an entrepreneur from Torres Vedras who found, in the landscapes of Pias, the ideal terroir to create wines of excellence.
With an innovative spirit, José Margaça led a pioneering process of vineyard and winery modernisation, investing in quality and introducing bottled wines in a region traditionally focused on bulk production. The launch of the iconic Encostas do Enxoé in 1988 marked a new era for Pias wines.
Today, the project remains in the hands of the second and third generations of the family, who stay true to the founder’s values: respect for the land, innovation, and a deep commitment to authenticity. With around 800 hectares under cultivation, Família Margaça is the largest wine producer in the Pias region and a benchmark in Alentejo.
The winery, designed by architect Filipe Nobre Figueiredo, blends tradition and modernity. It includes a shop, museum, tasting rooms, and spaces dedicated to wine tourism, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the family’s story and passion for winemaking.
In 2016, the brand’s identity was strengthened with the launch of the Família Margaça premium range, which showcases the best of the local terroir. Wines such as Talhão 37, Reserva, and Vinha do Furo have earned national and international acclaim, taking the name of Pias beyond borders.
Wine tourism, social responsibility, community engagement, and sustainability are at the heart of this project. A visit to Família Margaça is a journey into a living legacy, where the past and future of Alentejo come together in a truly authentic toast.
