About the Activity
Located at Quinta de Valbom, just 2 km from the historic centre of Évora – a UNESCO World Heritage city – and a short distance from the Cartuxa Monastery that inspired its name, Cartuxa Wine Tourism occupies the former Jesuit retreat house, where members of the Society of Jesus taught at the University of Évora in the 16th and 17th centuries. Acquired in the 19th century by the Eugénio de Almeida family, the winery has undergone several expansions and restorations while preserving its architectural and historical legacy.

The guided visit invites you to explore the history of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, the unique surroundings of Quinta de Valbom and the building where Cartuxa Winery was founded, in an atmosphere that blends heritage, identity, and winemaking tradition.

The experience concludes with a tasting of three wines selected by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation. Guests may optionally complement the tasting with traditional Alentejo snacks such as cured meats, cheeses and regional jams.
