Herdade do Mouchão, in the Alentejo, traces its history back to the late 19th century, when John Reynolds acquired the 900 hectare estate and continued the family tradition. It was here that the family began producing wine and built, in 1901, the iconic winery with white adobe walls and high ceilings. It was also through John’s initiative that the first Alicante Bouschet vines were brought from France, a grape that today defines Mouchão’s identity and makes the estate the leading reference for this variety in Portugal.

The guided visit to the winery offers insight into the winemaking methods used in the production of Mouchão wines, preserving traditional practices that shape their character. The experience concludes with a tasting of seven Mouchão wines, paired with regional snacks in the winery’s tasting room, with the opportunity to visit the estate shop featuring wines, olive oil, and organic honey produced on the property.
