Quinta do Monte d'Oiro
Located in the Lisbon Wine Region (Alenquer), Quinta do Monte d’Oiro is known since the 17th century for its privileged terroir, resting on clay-limestone soils and having a strong Atlantic influence (the property is only 20 km away from the ocean), where the wind blows permanently. These characteristics have shown over the years to enhance the wines with great freshness, elegance and balance.
This family wine project raises from José Bento dos Santos’ dream, renowned gastronomic, owner of a rare wine collection with some of the greatest wines in the world and great admirer of Côte du Rhône wines. He was the President of the International Academy of Gastronomy and is a member of Les Psychologues du Goût.
The winemaking team is led by Graça Gonçalves and can count since 2006 on the expertise of Grégory Viennois, former Chief Winemaker of the Maison M. Chapoutier (Côtes du Rhône) and current Technical Director of the Laroche wines in Chablis(Burgundy). With a viticulture work based on plot management, the vineyard is 100% certified organic and all the operations aim at very low yield production. In the winery, the methodic work is a priority, using the best French oak barrels for wine ageing.
Since the first harvest in 1997, Quinta do Monte d’Oiro wines have been consistently awarded with countless prizes and achievements in Portugal and around the globe. Some examples worth mentioning are «The best Iberian wine» or the over 50 classifications attributed by Robert Parker in the restricted 90-95 points category - «outstanding».
