Quinta de S. Luiz
Quinta de São Luiz, origin of the brand Kopke, is located on the left bank of the Douro river, near Pinhão, in the parish of Adorigo municipality Tabuaço, in the middle of the sub-region of Cima-Corgo.
Impressive and considered one of the most representative of the Douro region, this wine estate suffered the impact of two fundamental changes in its area: on the one hand, the construction of the Bagaúste dam, with the consequent rise in the water level, which led to a loss of part of the wine estate's land; on the other hand, the acquisition and integration of other adjacent properties such as Quinta da Mesquita (1972), Quinta da Lobata (1974), Quinta da Alegria (1982) and Quinta da Galeira (1987) which expanded its extension. Today, the wine estate accounts for 125 ha, 90 of which are planted with vineyards, including old vines that bear fruit for our premium wines.
Even before there was the demarcation of the Douro region, Kopke already existed. Founded in 1638, the oldest Port Wine house has built an immaculate reputation, based on high quality principles. A leader in the production of Tawny Colheita Port wines, including white wines, Kopke has an enviable portfolio of special category Ports and also produces premium Douro DOC wines.
