Pereira de Melo Wines
Pereira de Melo is the name of a family with ancestral roots in the Dão region. The name Melo originates from the old Vila de Melo, located on the northern slope of Serra da Estrela. The current family property is in Santa Comba Dão and dates back to 1973.
Although they also live in the city of Porto, much of their time is spent in Dão. Devotees of nature, rural life and artisanal work, they have always cultivated a taste for wine culture.
Respect for traditions, in perfect harmony with an innovative vision of modernity, are at the essence of the commitment that drives them.
The family project has in its genesis the production of detailed wines, with great character, elegance, and longevity. Created by true artisans, interpreters of the extraordinary terroir that hosts them, these are wines of great complexity in very limited editions.
Manuel Pereira de Melo started the project in the early 1990s, with the technical guidance of his friend and one of the most prestigious Portuguese winemakers, Anselmo Mendes, who, in 2006, brought his special collaborator, winemaker Patrícia Santos, to the team. , who came to assume technical responsibility.
The family property, located in Santa Comba Dão, close to the Aguieira dam reservoir, at the Foz of the Dão river, is surrounded by the Estrela, Caramulo, Buçaco and Lousã mountain ranges. It thus presents geological and climatic conditions conducive to a unique and rare balance, creating an extraordinary terroir with a tradition in the production of wines capable of reaching centuries of age.
