Quinta da Penina
The Quinta da Penina project started in the year 2000 when the cooperatives in the Algarve began to close down and small farm producers appeared. The wines of the Foral de Portimão and Quinta da Penina brands, produced by Quinta da Penina Vinhos, come from carefully planted vineyards in two different terroirs, Quinta da Penina (Portimão) and Quinta da Palmeirinha (Lagoa).
Some of the best Portuguese red grape varieties have been chosen such as Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Trincadeira, Castelão, Negra Mole, and white grape varieties such as Crato Branco (Síria), Arinto, Verdelho, Sercial, Rabigato, Viosinho which together or not with the French Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and the white Viognier give rise to red and white wines of excellent quality.
The Quinta da Palmeirinha has been producing wines since the 19th century and has probably the oldest economically productive vineyard (1942) in the Algarve, with the Negra Mole grape variety, planted in freestanding and trained in pots. The new winery and Quinta da Palmeirinha are open to wine tourism with visits and wine tastings.
History
The first red wines appeared in 2005, elaborated in a small, borrowed cellar, with the brand Foral de Portimão Colheita Selecionada, Reserva, and the monovarietal Petit Verdot.
Since then, in the following years, Quinta da Penina continued to expand in terms of new products and new areas of cultivation.
In 2012 the Quinta da Penina brand was launched, with the Quinta da Penina Reserva red 2010.
The new winery (inaugurated in July 2021) is located at the Industrial Park of Pateiro, in Parchal (Lagoa) and its location is equidistant from the production areas, Quintas da Penina and Palmeirinha.
We offer guided tours, with a description of the entire production process and wine tasting.
