Herdade do Peru
Located in Azeitão, at the foot of the Serra da Arrábida, between the blue of the Atlantic and the green of the vineyards, Herdade do Perú is a place where nature, history, and wine come together in perfect harmony.
The history of this estate dates to 1715, when King João V of Portugal and Queen Maria Anna of Austria visited the palace of António Cremer and his wife Catarina Sofia Cremer Van Zeller, at the former “Sítio do Perum”, an area of vineyards with a wine press and later a winery. The Cremer family came to Portugal at the invitation of the Marquis of Pombal, with the mission of managing the former Kingdom of Gunpowder, establishing their roots here and beginning a lasting connection to the land and to wine.
Over the centuries, the estate has preserved that legacy. In the 20th century, the grandparents of the current owner continued this long tradition, and in 2017 a new chapter began, with the replanting of vineyards and the revival of wine production, now sustainably, paying tribute to the history, identity, and character of this exceptional land.
To the mythical Herdade do Perú – which combines accommodation, wine production, events and unique wine tourism experiences – are now joined the Casas da Comporta, a minimalist rural retreat designed to pause, breathe and start anew. Both share a common horizon: the breathtaking view over the Serra da Arrábida, completing the landscape and inspiring the soul.
The perfect setting to enjoy the pleasure of wine.
