Alves de Sousa

Alves de Sousa family worked for many years, 5 generations, in Douro wines and vineyards.

The quality and singularity of their wines has been recognized over the years with varied national and international distinctions, being the first in the history to be distinguished twice with the award “Produtor do Ano” (Producer of the Year), and this is the most important and prestigious distinction for a wine producer in Portugal.

Tiago Alves de Sousa, Alves de Sousa’ winemaker, he was also distinguished, in 2017, with an award "Enólogo Nacional" (National Winemaker). This distinction combines other nominations for awards such as “Enólogo do Ano” (Winemaker of the Year), by "Wine - A Essência do Vinho" and, in addition, “Enólogo Geração XXI” (Winemaker Generation XXI), by "Paixão pelo Vinho" magazine.

The new winery, located in the famous Quinta da Gaivosa, in Santa Marta de Penaguião, Vila Real district, combines tradition and modernity, having been distinguished with some architecture and wine tourism awards among which the "Best of Wine Tourism 2017".
