Palácio da Brejoeira
Palácio da Brejoeira is a neoclassical style building, with baroque influence, was built at the beginning of the 19th century by Luís Pereira Velho de Moscoso. Palácio da Brejoeira was build on an old family farm, named Quinta do Vale da Rosa.
Although most of the records indicate the construction date to 1806, José Augusto Vieira mentioned that the initial date was 1806 in his book called “Minho Pitoresco”. However, Padre Câmara refers that the construction begun in 1805 and ends in 1834.
The Brejoeira Palace was built in granite, L-shaped, with three turrets. Outside, green spaces and agriculture coexisted, taking advantage of the abundance of water and the land fertility.
In 1937, the palace was once again sold, being bought by Comendador Francisco de Oliveira Paes to offer it to his daughter Maria Hermínia Silva d'Oliveira Paes, born in 1918. She was responsible for the property restructuring and for planting Alvarinho grape variety. She starts the wine commerce, and it's distinguished by Palácio da Brejoeira wines.
Before the installation of Alvarinho's vineyard, the wine was destined for family consumption or sold in bulk for small grocery stores, with the varieties Bracelho, Pedral and Negrão (Vinhão).
Already in 1974, Mrs. Maria Hermínia d'Oliveira Paes built a winery with all the necessary conditions for the production of Alvarinho wine and two years later, in 1976, her dream is fulfilled: "Palácio da Brejoeira" is launched Alvarinho, bottled at the origin.
Maria Hermínia d'Oliveira Paes resided in the private area of the palace until the date of her death, which occurred on December 30, 2015.
