Adega do Fundão - Visit & Tasting of 7 Wines

Dating back to the 2nd century, Fundão region is the birthplace of the Cova da Beira Wines, which saw the birth, centuries later, in 1949, of the Adega do Fundão, by the hand of 30 farmers.

With origins dating back to the Roman occupation, viticulture in the Cova da Beira region is evidenced by significant archaeological finds. Notable examples include a Canephoros Atlas statuette (2nd century AD), found in the 'A Forca' vineyard alongside contemporary artifacts, and grape seeds discovered at Quintas da Torre (late 3rd/early 4th century). The latter are currently undergoing DNA analysis to deepen the understanding of the region's viticultural evolution.
