About the Activity
The history of Herdade do Mouchão dates back to the end of the 19th century, when John Reynolds acquired the 900-hectare property, continuing the cork activity started by his grandfather. 

In this place, the family eventually added wine production. Several vines were planted and, in 1901, a traditional winery was built, with thick white adobe walls and a high ceiling, all topped by a magnificent Portuguese tile roof. It was also through John's initiative that the first plants of the Alicante Bouschet grape variety were brought from France. Today it is the most representative grape variety of Mouchão wines, and the estate is considered to be the mother of the Alicante Bouschet grape variety in Portugal.

We invite you to visit us and participate in a guided tour of our winery, where the vinification methods we use in the production of Mouchão wines will be explained, and, at the end of the visit, in a tasting of 6 Mouchão wines, served with regional delicacies, which will take place in the visiting room of the winery. You can also, if you wish, enjoy our shop, where our wines, olive oil and organic honey, all produced in the estate, are sold.
