On this luxury wine and food tour, designed by Portugal by Wine, we invite you to discover the Alentejo Wine Region.
This program of 5 days and 4 nights, includes a visit to 10 of the most prestigious Alentejo wine estates, where you will taste the best wines, gastronomy, and enjoy unforgettable wine tourism experiences.
The program starts with the pick-up at Humberto Delgado Airport, in hotels, or in the city centre of Lisbon. You will be accompanied by a chauffeur specialized in wine tourism, and the entire trip will be in a premium vehicle.
After the pick-up, the trip towards Alentejo will be full of stunning landscapes, where you will appreciate the particular natural beauty of this route.
Activities will begin at Herdade da Calada, located near Évora, in the heart of the Alentejo Wine Region, where you will contemplate a beautiful rural setting, with the vineyards and the lake, surrounded by the silence of the vast Alentejo plains. You will get to know the Estate on a guided tour, the main building and the 35 hectares of vineyards and 110 hectares of olive groves that surround it. After the visit, you will taste 4 Herdade da Calada wines, accompanied by typical products of this region. You can also try the olive oil produced at the Estate.
After the visit, it will be time for lunch, and nothing better than lunch in a restaurant that is owned by one of the most prestigious and emblematic brands of Alentejo, the Adega da Cartuxa. You will have lunch at the Enoteca Cartuxa Restaurant, in the city centre of Évora. With an architecture of clean lines, underlined by the white of the walls and the wood and red tones of the furniture, the Enoteca Cartuxa evokes the informal atmosphere of a tavern, bringing it to the contemporary. Be amazed to discover the perfect harmony between the wines and the regional cuisine, interpreted and reinvented in a current way. You will enjoy a lunch full of traditional Alentejo flavours.
After lunch, you will visit Herdade de Coelheiros, which has been producing since 1991, some of the most emblematic wines of the Alentejo region, from vineyards, walnut orchards, pine forest, olive groves and wildlife. Located in Igrejinha, municipality of Arraiolos, Herdade dos Coelheiros represents a mosaic of cultures and habitats, celebrating heterogeneity over 800 ha. The wines of Coelheiros are produced in deep connection with the earth and nature. You will have the opportunity to taste the Coelheiros and the Tapada de Coelheiros, white and red. The tasting will be accompanied by walnuts, cured meats and/or regional cheeses, olive oil and bread.
After a full day of activities, it will be time to check in at the hotel. The program presents you with two suggestions, one of 5 and one of 4 stars. It's your choice.
The Hotel M'ar de Ar Aqueduto 5*, located in the historic centre of Évora, arises from an adaptation of the former Palace of Sepúlveda, from which preserves a magnificent chapel, vaulted ceilings and three Manueline windows on the main façade. All rooms have been decorated according to a concept of modern comfort and design notes, original furniture, soft colour composition and exquisite fabrics.
Alternatively, from the same hotel group, you will have the Hotel M'ar de Ar Muralhas 4*, also located in the historic centre of the city of Évora, near known Giraldo Square, the nerve centre of this magnificent city and capital of the kingdom during the early years of the sixteenth century. Here you can enjoy the large landscaped area framed by the historic wall that provides an environment of incomparable beauty. Benefiting from this unique setting is the pool area, the terrace with a high comfort living area, taking full advantage of the famous Alentejo nights and the planetarium that forms on our heads.
Day 2
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel with the best regional Alentejo products, our guide will pick you up and drive you on the 2nd day of this tour.
The activities will begin at Herdade das Servas, located in Estremoz. You will get to know the day-to-day life of one of the oldest wine-producing families in Alentejo, on a guided tour of the winery and cellars. In addition to knowing the property, which has more than 350 years of history in wine production, you will taste some traditional tapas of chorizo and cheese and enjoy a tasting of two wines from Herdade das Servas.
At lunchtime, you will visit João Portugal Ramos, located in Estremoz, Évora, in the heart of Alentejo. Its winery, in Vila Santa, joins the modern in all the winemaking technology implemented in the wine production processes, with the best Portuguese wine tradition. You will visit the winery and cellars, where you will have the opportunity to know the whole history of this producer, its properties and its wines. After the visit, you will enjoy a traditional Alentejo lunch, accompanied by the João Portugal Ramos wines. Then, you will participate in the activity "Being a Winemaker for a Day", where you will create your own batch of wine and take home a bottle of wine with a personalized label.
After a day full of tastings and visits, it's time to stroll around and discover the charms of the city of Évora, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, it is heir to a rich and varied cultural heritage. Whether in the middle of the medieval streets, in the exuberance of palaces, monasteries and churches, Évora hides a charm of her own. Visit the unparalleled Chapel of bones of St. Francis Church, the famous Roman Temple, and the Cathedral. Fall in love with the history of the beautiful Giraldo de Évora Square. Step on the sidewalk and sit on a terrace. Discover all the details and secrets of the Palace of D. Manuel in Évora that tells part of the history of the city and the Portuguese kings. Walk to your liking through the streets, absorbing the secret soul that the diversity of secular cultures has settled in this city of the World.
Among the many quality options you will find for dinner in Évora, since the place of dinner is optional, we suggest a renowned family restaurant, located in the historic centre, named "O Fialho", known for the good and genuine gastronomy and excellent wines, where the authentic flavours of the Alentejo are valued. At the end of dinner, it will be time to return to the hotel.
Day 3
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, with the best regional Alentejo products, our guide will collect you and drive you through the 3rd day of this tour.
The activities will start in one of the most prestigious brands in Portugal, Adega da Cartuxa - Quinta de Valbom. Located in Quinta de Valbom, 2 km from the historic centre of Évora and 200 metres from Cartuxa Monastery that inspired its name, Cartuxa Wine Tourism is housed in the former Jesuit rest home (Companhia de Jesus), who taught at the University of Évora in the 16th and 17th centuries. You will discover the history and unique surroundings of Quinta de Valbom through a guided tour of the building where the Cartuxa Winery was founded. The activity will culminate with the tasting of 3 wines selected by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, accompanied by typical Alentejo snacks, such as sausages, cheeses, and jams from the region.
For lunch, we selected one of the most renowned restaurants in the city of Évora, 5 Almêndoas restaurant, installed in the Hotel Vitória Stone, where you will enjoy a typical Alentejo lunch and try the best traditional cuisine, with a touch of sophistication, on a menu suggested by the Chef.
During the afternoon you will visit Herdade do Freixo, an agricultural company located in northeastern Alentejo, whose main activity is wine production with varieties of high adaptive potential to soil and climate. You will know the winery, owner of a unique architecture, built in depth in a total of 3 floors below the vineyard. At the end of the visit, you will taste 2 premium wines, in a tasting accompanied by a board of cheeses and sausages.
Dinner will be in the Divinus restaurant, integrated in the Convento do Espinheiro hotel. It is one of the best restaurants in Alentejo. It stands out for its traditional author’s cuisine and has a selection of the best Alentejo wines. After dinner, it will be time to return to the hotel.
Day 4
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel with the best regional Alentejo products, our guide will pick you up and drive you on the 4th day of this tour, which will take place in the Lower Alentejo region.
The activities will begin at Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, located in Albernôa, in the heart of the Lower Alentejo, is a space of freedom that is lost on the horizon without limits, where high quality wines and native animals are bred in total harmony with nature. Here you will participate in an advanced wine-tasting course that will make you travel for the pleasure of sensory experiences and in the recognition of the grape varieties, carefully selected for your production.
Owner of an innovative concept in Portugal, Herdade da Malhadinha Nova provides thematic experiences, where wine and gastronomy take on a fundamental role. In the cellar building, the restaurant offers an author's kitchen, inspired by typical Alentejo dishes, recreated by a Michelin-starred Chef. You will taste the menu of 4 moments paired with the best Malhadinha Wines.
After lunch, you will visit the Herdade dos Grous, a property of 730 hectares that constitutes a quiet space to relax and taste nature. In this estate, of wine and agrotourism exploration, in the heart of the Alentejo, only 17 kilometres away from Beja, you will get to know, on a guided tour, the winery, followed by a tasting of 4 Herdade dos Grous wines, accompanied by regional Alentejo tapas.
After the visit, it will be time to leave Beja and return to Évora. Our Chauffeur will take you to the city centre, where you can choose where to dine. The program suggests the restaurant Dom Joaquim, known for the traditional gastronomy. After dinner, it will be time to return to the hotel.
Day 5
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, with the best regional Alentejo products, our guide will pick you up and drive you on the 5th and last day of this tour, which will take place in the Alentejo Interior region.
The first activity of the day will be at Howard's Folly, on a guided tour of its urban winery, where the entire process of producing its wine will be explained, from the arrival of the grapes to the analysis of the wines in tanks and barrels, as well as bottling and labelling. You will learn about blends, produced with grapes from old vines, which allow for the creation of unique wines, while chatting with the winemaker about Portuguese wines. After the visit, you will enjoy a regional meal, with a harmonized 3 course menu, served at Howard's Folly restaurant.
In the early afternoon, already in Campo Maior, district of Portalegre, you will visit Adega Mayor, which extends over 350 hectares of azinho mounted, riverside galleries and agricultural fields. At the top of the panoramic terrace, you can see, on the horizon line, the vineyard, the olive grove, Spain and the Serra de Portalegre. In the interior of the building, live large spaces dedicated to production and storage, with rooms that invite wine tasting and inspired conversations. You will get to know Adega Mayor on a full visit to the property. After the visit, you will enjoy an introduction to the world of wines workshop, followed by blind tasting of 6 wines and a tasting of regional Alentejo snacks.
At the end of the day, it will be time to finish the tour and return to Lisbon. Our guide will drop you off at the city centre, hotels or Humberto Delgado Airport.
