On this luxury wine and food tour, designed by Portugal by Wine, we invite you to discover the Douro Wine Region, on the theme of Port Wine.
The 2-day program includes a visit to some of the most prestigious Douro wineries and Vila Nova de Gaia wine cellars, where you will taste the best wines, gastronomy and enjoy unforgettable wine tourism experiences.
The program starts with the pick-up at Sá Carneiro Airport, in hotels, or in the city centre of Porto. You will be accompanied by a chauffeur specialized in wine tourism, and the entire trip will be in a premium vehicle.
After the pick-up, the trip towards Douro Valley will be full of stunning landscapes, where you will appreciate the peculiar natural beauty of this route so recognized throughout the world.
The activities begin at Quinta do Noval, located 4 km from Pinhão, is known for the production of Port and Douro Wine, of high quality, with worldwide recognition. You will get to know the property through a private visit to its facilities, vineyards and winery. The visit will end with a commented tasting of 4 Port wines.
The typically Douro lunch will be at Quinta do Crasto. You will enjoy a meal of traditional Portuguese cuisine, accompanied by Quinta do Crasto wines, served on the terrace near the infinite pool, with wonderful views of the Douro Valley.
In the late afternoon you will visit Quinta da Pacheca, one of the oldest, emblematic and well-known wineries in the Douro region, Quinta da Pacheca, located in Lamego. You will enjoy a true combination of traditional Douro flavours, in a wine and sensory experience, which will begin with a traditional cooking workshop, where you will cook, with the help of the Chef, a typical Douro meal, the result of which will be served at dinner.
To stay overnight we present you two suggestions, you decide:
Wine Hotel da Quinta da Pacheca, one of the best-known units of the 'charm tourism' of the Douro Valley. With the vineyard and wine as inspiration and environment, it is oriented to gastronomic and wine tourism, combining the modern and avant-garde image with sobriety and elegance.
Or, alternatively, the Wine Hotel Quinta do Vallado, where you immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of Quinta do Vallado. Relax with the Douro Valley as background. Guests have access to the sauna, Turkish bath and hot tub.
Day 2
After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, with the best regional Douro products, our guide will pick you and lead you to Porto, more specifically to the centre of Vila Nova de Gaia.
At Cais de Gaia (pier), where the Port Wine Cellars are located, activities begin at Taylor's Cellars. Created more than three centuries ago, in 1692, Taylor's is one of the oldest port wine trading houses dedicated exclusively to the production of Port wine and, especially, to its best styles. You will visit the Taylor's wine cellars, in the heart of the historic area of Vila Nova de Gaia, and enjoy a guided tour that will take you to explore the basement that houses most of the company's large wooden port wine reserves, as well as its Vintage Port wine cellars. After the visit, you will participate in a tasting of 4 Port wines accompanied by toasted almonds.
In the central area of Vila Nova de Gaia you will find several typical and luxury restaurants where you can have lunch, however we leave you a suggestion, which stands out for the gastronomic quality and the wine list. The Enoteca 17.56 restaurant, owned by Real Companhia Velha, combines the best of contemporary, Mediterranean and fusion cuisine with the Portuguese wines.
After lunch, it will be time to discover the Real Companhia Velha, the oldest and most emblematic wine company in Portugal, having more than 260 years of existence and uninterrupted activity at the service of Port Wine. You will visit the cellars where Port Wine ages in wooden casks. The visit will begin with the projection of a video about the history of the Company and the process of making Port wine and will continue through the main aging warehouse, the "Vintage Museum" and will end with a wine tasting, accompanied by dried fruits and a selection of matured cheeses.
The last visit of the program will be in The Caves Ferreira. With more than 250 years of tradition of excellence, Caves Ferreira has one of the best Vintage Porto wine cellars, a reference in the sector, with wines since 1815. This magnificent wine cellar dates back to the times of D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira who, in 1896, left a valuable "frasqueira" with thousands of bottles of the most consecrated crops. During the visit, you will discover Ferreira's long tradition in the production of Vintage Ports of excellent quality and taste these magnificent nectars.
At the end of a day full of wine and gastronomic activities, our guide will take you to the drop-off site, in the city centre of Porto, hotels or at Sá Carneiro Airport.
