About the Activity
Cartuxa Wine Tourism is based at Quinta de Valbom,  2km from the centre of the World Heritage city of Evora and just 200m from the Cartuxa Monastery from which it takes its name.  The visitor centre is in the old refectory of the former retreat of the Jesuit Brothers who taught at Evora University in the 16th and 17th centuries. Adega Cartuxa was purchased by the Eugenio de Almeida family in the 19th century, undergoing  a number of extensions and improvements over the years, taking care to preserve its rich architectural and historic integrity.

Discover the history and unique environment of Quinta de Valbom, in a guided visit to the building where Adega Cartuxa was founded.

The visit will end with a tasting of 3 wines, produced by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation. You may add some region products to tastings, which consist of sausages, cheeses, jams from the region.

Adega Cartuxa, a regional landmark!

“Beautiful” The visit is a must if you are in Evora. You get to taste wonderful olive oils with Alentejo bread and drink wines in a beautiful farm that preserves the monastical style. Wines are no longer produced here but you still get the spirit. The shop sells the legendary Pera Manca but also more affordable wines. The staff is young and friendly and if the weather is good you can take nice pictures of the grapevines. Rosie, 09 mar 2020
