The Adega José de Sousa is unique, keeping alive a tradition initiated by the Romans more than 2000 years ago. The winery is equipped with 114 clay amphoras, a fermentation method as rare as it is old. The old winery is below ground level and contain the urns and two open presses for treading the grapes. There is also a new winery equipped with 44 stainless steel vats and all the essential technology for making red and white wines. This is the perfect place to witness the marriage between the old and the new, and to learn more about some exceptional wines.
After the private visit, you will enjoy some wines and regional appetizers, such as gazpacho with garnish (cucumber, pepper, and croutons), chicken pies, fresh goat's cheese, cured goat's cheese, cured sheep's cheese, charcuterie, two types of regional bread, toasts, seasoned olives, olive oil, traditional crackers, a typical regional sweet (for example, "sericaia") and seasonal fruit.
