Quinta da Côrte
Located in the golden triangle which contains the world’s most prestigious Wine Estates, the Quinta da Côrte takes pride in its unique personality. By treating its great terroir with the respect it deserves, and by the use of traditional methods updated in the light of the latest advances, it produces wines with great depth of character. Their authentic style bears eloquent testimony to a combination of great native varieties and schist soils.
A uniquely complex terroir!
Highly varied in structure, and with little or no mechanization, the plots are categorized according to their soil type, elevation, and plantings: a “mosaic” vineyard of great complexity where no plot is really like any of the others. Although the reputation of the Douro wines was built on Port, the famous “gentleman’s wine”, which still reigns supreme, unfortified wines have been growing in stature over the past twenty years.
Produced in high-quality vineyards, and blessed with the DOC Douro appellation, some of these wines have been carefully nurtured to achieve a degree of elegance that enables them to compete with the finest Mediterranean grape varieties.
A domaine run by true enthusiasts!
At the beginning of 2013 Philippe Austruy, who already owned the Commanderie de Peyrassol in Côtes de Provence and the Château Malescasse in Haut-Médoc, acquired the Quinta da Côrte in the Upper Douro. It is one of the oldest properties in the region and some of its plots are still not suited to mechanization; just like in the old days, the work is done with pickaxes, with men and mules doing all the carrying.
The Quinta da Côrte has been the object of a substantial program of investment aimed at achieving the level of excellence which this superb terroir is capable of producing. To develop its full potential, Philippe Austruy called on the services of Philippe Derenoncourt and his team, who had already worked their magic on his other wine-growing properties.
